Note: TX's elevated count includes state license filings from FOIA/public records, not only buy/sell deals. Among actual dealership buy/sell transactions, TX represents roughly 7%.

This report aggregates dealership ownership transaction data from multiple sources including news articles, press releases, and state licensing public records. The 24-month window covers events with a recorded event date within the past two years. Duplicate events (same transaction appearing from multiple sources) are excluded via a deduplication flag.
Geographic coverage: Transaction data is unevenly distributed across states. Texas shows an elevated record count because state license filings are available through FOIA/public records, while most other states are covered by news-sourced data only. Those license filings are not buy/sell transactions: among actual dealership buy/sell deals, only about 7% originate from TX. The larger TX presence in raw record counts reflects data availability, not M&A concentration.
Brand coverage: Franchise brand is recorded for approximately 67% of buy/sell transactions. Events without a recorded brand are excluded from brand charts. Multi-franchise locations may appear under a single brand if that brand was the primary subject of the news coverage.
Buyer and seller group coverage: Buyer group is recorded for approximately 21% of transactions; seller group for approximately 18%. These fields capture dealer group names (e.g., Sonic Automotive) rather than individual buyer/seller names, and are populated where group affiliation was reported in source material.
Broker coverage: Broker name is recorded where a brokered transaction was identified in source material.
Data is refreshed as new events are ingested. The Conscivo link in the deal feed appears where the dealership website URL has been matched in the Conscivo database.
